Yoga Therapy

Jan works with individuals by evaluating imbalances, chronic conditions, injuries, and
physical and emotional impediments to health and well being.  Yoga therapy sessions are
tailored to the individual's needs to develop a safe, sequenced, personal practice of Yoga
poses and breathing techniques to improve health, control symptoms, help recovery, and
encourage functioning.  Jan works with students with chronic health issues such as arthritis,
autoimmune disorders including lupus, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue; back and spine injury;
joint replacements; and respiratory disease.  She also has a particular interest in the
application of Yoga for the management of  depression, anxiety, panic disorder, and trauma.
Jan also teaches Yoga to children with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

By applying age-old Yogic practices and principles which include gentle and restorative yoga
poses, learning yoga safely for your body, breath awareness, and guided meditation, Jan
teaches students to use their body’s own capacity to heal and relieve stress.  The result is the
development of an individually modified yoga practice that can be incorporated into a
regular yoga routine of self-care.

The goal is to help the student develop habits over time to improve physical and mental
health. These include:

-assessment of student's current issues, movement patterns, limitations and strengths

-adaptation of practices that meet student's multi-dimensional needs
-motivation and goal setting
-pain and discomfort control
-
suggestions for home practice
-practices for restful sleep and relaxation
-
developing self-acceptance and love
